What is MoneyMap?

MoneyMap is a crowdsourcing platform that gathers, organizes and presents up-to-the-minute foreign exchange rates of the main currencies at major Egyptian banks. This information is complemented with an easy-to-use bank branch locator, enabling users to find their nearest banks and identify the best FX rates among them. User feedback is incorporated into the platform with the aim of capturing the personal experiences of the users at the various banks and branches and ensuring the accuracy of the information.

Background and Mission Statement

On November 3rd, 2016 the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) announced the adoption of a liberalized exchange rate regime. Each bank sets its own foreign exchange rates based on supply and demand with a non-binding rate announced by the CBE serving as soft guidance. Exchange rates can and do vary between banks, those announced in newspapers may change during the day and those on forex trading sites are generally interbank rates available only to banks or traders.

We provide this platform as a tool to allow you to look at the latest exchange rates as reported by banks and other users in real time, locate the banks with the best rates in your vicinity, and review and compare the historical exchange rates. Our users are able to submit rate updates and report on their experiences. Our goal is to increase overall market transparency and competitiveness and empower our users to make informed economic decisions.

Sources of Information

Our data comes from two main sources: publicly-available information (the Internet!) and our users (you!). So if you find any inaccuracies or missing information, please let us know and we will fix it and publicly credit you as a Contributor. You can reach us using the Contact Us form, the bank feedback form on the map, Facebook, or Twitter.
